Calculated Confusion

For the past two weeks i’ve been away from my usual residence. This was a short notice affair and has had me away from my books for longer than expected. Where I am has books, so i’m making do.

Until I return to my regularly scheduled reading, i’m making do with some short stories i’ve found.

Dangers

Lucy Caldwell

Poison

Poison by Lucy Caldwell reminded me a lot of Fish Tank (2009 Film) directed by Andrea Arnold. Both showcase some rather risqué themes, more so Fish Tank, but side by side they do a pretty good job guarding the gates of innocence vs. sin.

It’s strange to compare the preadolescence of a girl versus my own at the same age. A lot of my childhood beyond the age of 10 is what i’d call Calculated Confusion. I couldn’t tell you why I did the things I did, just that each was coordinated according to a manner I have yet to shake into my mid-twenties.
